Dr. Purandara is a retired Scientist `G’ from the National Institute of Hydrology, which is a premier R & D organization under the Ministry of Jalshakti, Govt of India, New Delhi, with its Head Quarters at Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Completed Master’s degree in M. Geology (1981-1983) with FIRST RANK and obtained Ph. D from Cochin University of Science and Technology in the year 1990-91 in the area of Coastal processes, Sedimentation and Geochemistry. Worked in the area of Environmental Hydrology, Ground water Hydrology & Forest and Agriculture Hydrology. Completed more than twenty sponsored projects, which includes UNESCO, UNDP, FORD Foundation, DST, MoES and World Bank aided projects (Hydrology Project). He has worked in collaboration with UNESCO, Paris and New Delhi during 1995-2006 in the area of Forest Hydrology. He visited countries like USA, Australia and Malaysia and obtained advanced training in the area of Forest Hydrology and Watershed Management.

In the year 2000, received the Best Scientist Award with a cash award of Rs. 5000/- from the National Institute of Hydrology which was instituted by then MoWR (presently known asJalashakti Ministry)for his contribution to the area of Forest Hydrology. He also received VeenaRoonwal Award, 2015 instituted by Mining Engineers Association of India, Hyderabad for his contribution to Water Management in Mining areas. Acted as aExpert member of District Environmental Committee of Belagavi for Mining Approvals.Published more than Two hundredresearch articles (in the last 25 years) in various International and National Journals, National and International Proceedings and Edited Book chapters etc. Guided/co-guided more than 60 students for their M. Tech degree. Guided Six student to Ph. D out of which three got awarded and three awaited for the viva voce. Acted as a visiting Faculty in the Dept. of Water and Land Management during 2011-2014 in the Visvesvaraya Technological University and also for various Engineering Colleges.
