Dr. Jayasree Vaidyanathan


Profile Info:

Dr. Jayasree Vaidyanathan is working as a scientist and Principal Investigator at National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bengaluru. She has master’s in meteorology and specialized on Hydrometeorology at doctoral and post-doctoral levels. She has extensive experience on Assessment of impact of climate and land use/landcover change on Hydrology of River Basins across the Western Ghats, water management and quality issues, air and water pollution and water, sanitation, and hygiene issues. She is a consultant to International Organizations such as the Winrock International, CCES-Global, and Institute for Social and Economic Transition, USA, and member of some evaluation/advisory committees on River basin management and environment education at National level.

She has conducted several training programmes for school children, youth, teachers, women SHG, and scientific community on issues related to resource management, bioenergy solutions, wastewater and solid waste treatment, water pollution etc. She has presented several papers in both national and International conferences and several publications to her credit both in peer reviewed journal as well as in media. At NIAS, she has worked on WASH and community empowerment projects and at currently working on a project entitled “Water Hyacinth: A Resource for Energy, Rural Enterprise and Women Empowerment in Kuttanad region. Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. Her interests are also on Ancient Indian knowledge systems for solving issues related to water and environment and for the wellbeing of School children.

She was part of "Indian Knowledge system " and traditional practices in water management, environmental protection and weather observation and forecasting.
